Another December snowfall tapered off Wednesday night, but not before most of our area picked up between 2 and 4 inches of accumulation. Officially at Mitchell International Airport 2.6 inches of snow piled up leaving us with 6.4 inches for the month so far. On average we get 11.7 inches of snow in December so we're more than half way there.
Frankly, many people around the area have already received more than that monthly average, a true indication of how variable weather, and particularly our last couple snowfalls can be.
While the snow was a concern for much of the day Wednesday, it's cold that will be the weather headline for the near future. A Canadian airmass is sinking into the upper midwest and behind the cold front which passed by skies are clearing which will allow night time temperatures to plummet into the teens and even the single digits in some spots.
Our pattern of snow every couple of days looks like it's going to continue with a chance for more this weekend.
Stay warm!
